Overview
I am the founding Manger for Justice Education at the Claremont Colleges. I am also part of the team that created the first Bachelor’s Degree Program based off Inside-Out curriculum at the California Rehabiliation Center. I am a doctoral student in the Political Science and Government department at Claremont Graduate University, and adjunct faculty at Pitzer College in the Political Studies department. I earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in Social Policy from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Law and Society from California State University, Los Angeles. I have worked in the justice system for over 20 years and I have over 15 years of experience in higher education. I have taught in 7 California prisons, 2 juvenile facilities, and 4 international prisons. My work focuses on the criminalization of Black people in the U.S., recidivism and reentry services for formerly incarcerated individuals, and the use of education as a tool for rehabilitation and community empowerment. My goal is to develop programs and legislation that dismantle the prison industrial complex while expanding educational opportunities to underserved and underrepresented communities.

Additional Context on Racial Justice Expertise.
I am currently a racial bias facilitator with Colorful Flags.Colorful Flags builds healthy race relations by conducting training workshops on social
justice and cultural competency. Our program examines cultural identities, explicit and implicit bias, the power of language, and systemic racism. The workshops give participants the practical tools to hold themselves and others accountable for racially biased behavior. Colorful Flags inspires participants to embrace the South African concept of Ubuntu, which means humanity: “I am because we are.”
